PSP Emulator Compatibility & Troubleshooting

Compatibility belongs to a particular game, emulator version and setup. This page helps you investigate a problem; it is not a restored copy of the former Jpcsp compatibility database or a claim that we tested every PSP game.

Start with the exact game and version

  • Write down the game title, region and game ID when available.
  • Record the emulator name and full version or build identifier.
  • Include your operating system, graphics hardware and any settings changed from default.
  • Describe the first point of failure: opening the file, booting, menus, gameplay, audio, or saving.

Use the right evidence

For Jpcsp, search the developer issue tracker for the title and game ID. For PPSSPP, consult the official documentation and troubleshooting sections. Check dates and versions before copying a workaround. A forum report is useful evidence, but not proof that every region or later build behaves the same way.

The emulator opens, but the game is missing

Check the folder you are browsing and whether the file is still compressed inside a download archive. Use File → Load on Windows to select the game directly. Preserve the structure of homebrew folders; changing a filename extension is not a format conversion. Return to the Windows walkthrough if you have not yet loaded any content successfully.

The game runs, but controls or saves fail

Test inputs in a game menu before changing graphics settings. A directional-pad binding does not automatically bind the analog stick. See control mapping. For missing saves, first locate the active Memory Stick folder and distinguish normal saves from save states; use the backup and restore guide.

Graphics or sound problems

Record the original settings, return to defaults where practical, and change one setting at a time. Compare the same scene after each change. Avoid a universal “best settings” preset: a workaround may help one game while causing problems elsewhere. Preserve an in-game save before testing a different emulator version.

Old compatibility links

Older links can contain a numeric game record or an alphabetical filter. Those historical records have not been reconstructed here. We do not convert an unidentified record into a claim that a game works. Use the actual title and game ID to locate current evidence.

Looking for the old compatibility list?

We recovered seven historical Jpcsp v0.2 rev945 records, including the Super Fruitfall detail previously linked as record 12. These are dated archival reports, not current compatibility tests. Keep them separate from the troubleshooting process on this page.
